About

Welcome to Father-Son Birding! Don’t be shy about subscribing!

I am a well-known author of more than one hundred books (www.sneedbcollardiii.com), including Woodpeckers: Drilling Holes and Bagging Bugs. and Birds of Every Color. My newest children’s books are Border Crossings, Little Killers:The Ferocious Lives of Puny PredatorsWaiting for a Warbler and Beaver and Otter Get Along . . . Sort of. and Like No Other: Earth’s Coolest One-of-a-Kind Creatures. My latest book for adults is the award-winning Birding for Boomers—And Everyone Else Brave Enough to Embrace The World’s Most Rewarding and Frustrating Activity, which can be ordered directly from Mountaineers Books or your local independent bookstore.

My son, Braden, recently graduated summa cum laude in ecology and environmental sciences from the University of Maine. We began seriously birding together in 2014 after watching the movie The Big Year. When we began, we knew little about birds or birding, but our knowledge has steadily grown through an assortment of birding adventures, from pursuing our own Big Year(s), to traveling to the Galapagos and South America, to writing and photographing books and articles. We decided to begin this blog to share our love of birds and birding, offer tips on birding and photography, provide equipment and book reviews, and encourage other families to get out there and enjoy some of earth’s most spectacular creatures. To see the last five of our recent posts, click here. To watch our Birding Basics video, check out my YouTube channel.

In addition to the above bird-related activities, Braden and I both are active in speaking at birding festivals, writing for Bird Watcher’s Digest and other birding magazines, leading birding field trips, and teaching others about birds, birding, and conservation. We hope that you will share this blog with others, offer comments, and email us with any questions that you might have. Thank you!
